Another Successful CAB Performance

After singing his way through thirty states from California to Maine, Marc Mazzoni captured the audience of Salve Regina University's CAB featured 'coffee house' night on Feb. 7 with his Cat Stevens-sounding voice to eleven original songs.
Walking into the Dutch renaissance inspired room, one instantly feels transformed to the 'coffee house' atmosphere. After enjoying a cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee and a chocolate crumpet, one takes his/her place on a Blue cozy sofa strategically placed throughout the Fireplace Lounge. Waiting for the show to begin, students can appreciate the magnificent copper detailing and English inspired diamond paned bay windows set behind the stage.
After an introduction from one of Salve's CAB members, Mazzoni hopped onto the stage and introduced himself with his quirky, yet lovable personality. He explained that earlier in the night someone asked him what the most interesting thing he ever did was and he said, to be honest he had no idea. He continued by saying, after giving it some thought it was the fact he lived on a cramped bus for two years. This foreword led to his first song, about being in a bus far from home and missing the girl he loves.
Mazzoni gracefully moved his fingers across the piano keys and tapped the piano's pedals as he sang about 'Katie,' also the title of the song. The musician sang of writing about Katie and calling her different names and how he "met all those girls in all those towns and left them just the same."
The audience's loud applause along with hoots and hollers let Mazzoni know he was well appreciated as the performance came to an end. Although the crowd was about twenty people, the students that attended clearly enjoyed themselves. As Salve sophomore, Katie Cooke said, "It's a shame that more people don't know about the concerts that CAB puts on, especially in Wakehurst, because they are always really good."
Learning piano at the age of seven, Mazzoni's songwriting skills and performing talents have been compared to legend Elton John and popular artists such as Ben Folds. Mazzoni's guitar skills were also noticeable in his performance, as he accompanied his voice with his strumming in several songs.
Before Mazzoni went solo in 2005, he originally toured for two years with 'Ten Mile Tide' as their keyboardist and lead vocals. The band amassed over 13 million downloads on Kazaa, an internet music site, becoming the single most downloaded independent band ever.
