Call me cynical, but lately, I've noticed the world I so readily pay allegiance to shift among the threshold of fear under the oddest of circumstances. To say our world is media-driven is an understatement. The media's power, technological prowess and overwhelming outreach to the public have dominated society from the very introduction of the micro-chip. We are a modern, sophisticated and often obsessed culture that either thrives off of a right to freedom, or the thought of it being taken away. Anything that inhibits our ability to live our lives efficiently strikes questions, often panic.
September 11th. That was the day I was put onto this earth. It is also the day of sheer torment, heartache, vulnerability and chaos. What Americans experienced on that day will never be forgotten; revisited in our memories day after day, when even the slightest alarm renders reason for concern. We are scared. Since that day, we are a terrified nation that is withering in the eyes of our enemies. As the most envied nation in the world, we seem to somehow create enemies among ourselves. Soon enough, that atrocity is going to catch up with itself.
And that is why I was so affected by the recent events in Boston, Mass.
"Froth, fear and fury," says the Boston Globe. And this alludes to…yes, Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Huh? That was exactly my reaction. Apparently, in my quest to understand something comical, I came to find out that this show is one of the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim television comedy runs. I've never watched the show, nor do I intend to. I do, however, know it caused a serious uproar in our very own backyard. For the past 7 years, this show has graced an audience with twisted humor, as it has made its way to late-night success with the help of "Mooninite Marauders" and "Dancin' Meatwad." Again, a big question mark appears in front of me. But when all is said and done, these visuals are responsible for mass confusion in other ways.
