Those are the simple directions John Everett Benson, previous owner of The John Stevens Shop, gives to stone carving after the lettering is designed and traced and painted onto the stone. A person may think he or she is about to color in the lines of a child’s coloring book- that’s how nonchalantly and effortlessly Benson makes stone cutting to be.

What’s wrong with the kids today? How many times have you heard that question being asked when you see kids getting into trouble? Most of the time people say the solution is to get them into school and educate them. What if, however, the school was the problem? Many people are now questioning why their public schools are failing them and why is it such a problem for the government to fix it.

Green Fever and Dancing Fever have hit Salve Regina. The Environmental Club celebrated Earth Week by hosting the Go Green Dance, screening of the film “Flow” and Earth Day celebrations in O’Hare.

Over 100 students attended the four hour dance at Ochre Court.

Where are you likely to find 19-year-old freshman Spencer Kimmins on any given night? Certainly not in his dorm room. Kimmins, a Graphic Design major, frequents New York any given night to perform with his band, The Static Jacks, a New Jersey based quintet who have put out two EPs and already had one of their songs played on Nickelodeon and XM Radio.

Most people set their sights on the beautiful historical mansions when they arrive in Newport, R.I., not the ghosts that inhabit them. For Danger Radio, one of the opening bands for the Plain White T’s on April 18, 2009, capturing a ghost on video was top priority when they learned they were playing at Salve Regina.
