Salve Regina University Alumnae Leila de Bruyne and Justine Axelsson spoke to a large group of Salve students and faculty about their efforts to establish an orphanage in Kenya.

The program took place in Bazarsky Lecture Hall on Feb. 20.

The centerpiece of the presenation were posters these two women had set up in the middle of the hall featuring photos and future building plans for the orphanage

they just opened in July.

In Jon McGregor’s If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things he takes an ordinary day and poetically advises his reader about what life is. One could find an ordinary day symbolic of an ordinary life. There is a mystery at the center of this prose poem novel. The reader is asked to take a journey into the lives of an urban street in England.

I put the latest mixed CD into the car. I turn the volume up as loud as I can. I remember the first time my parents drove me to Newport. The sun was blazing and I was a mix of insecurities. What would freshman year hold? How would my running go? Would I have friends? Even if I did, would they accept me?

How would I leave my twin? We spent 18 years together and now we would be apart for the first time.

“We’re our own little breed of people,” said junior Samantha Grover as she described the familial environment of Salve Regina University’s Politics Department. “Once we get rolling on something, it’s hard to get us to stop.”

And it was passion like that that led Grover to meet some of the White House’s top contenders for the Presidency.

The 2008 Presidential race is steadily gaining speed as the months go on and with Super Tuesday in the recent past this election may be looking for the youth vote more than ever.

Youth oriented television networks like MTV have been pushing the importance of registering and voting in the fall.
