Generally, the words “Spring Break” to a college student bring visions of Cancun, warm sunny beaches, the anticipation of volleyball, suntanning, and the panicked rush to go to the gym to get in shape to wear that new little bikini. But to some students at Salve, other places come to mind when they hear those words: New Jersey and Kentucky.

Dear Fellow Classmates,

You have a power unlike any other. It’s called voting. With just a few minutes of your time every few years, you have the ability to control our government as you see fit. Yet, in the last Presidential election, only 49% of our population turned out at the polls.

If you’re looking for a dark and smoky karaoke bar to woefully sing “Heartbreak Hotel” with similarly woeful crooners, I would not suggest O’Briens’ Wednesday night karaoke. However, if you’re looking for a place to grab a couple pitchers with some friends and sing an off-tempo rendition of “Gin and Juice,” this is the place.

With just a month left of winter, it’s time to get outside! Temperatures are slowly starting to climb and Newport is holding the 16th annual Newport Winter Festival. The 10-day event concludes this weekend with activities for all.
