Newport gets the Point on repairing one of the town’s most historic streets.

In early May of this year Riley Corporation, who has since changed its name to Lynch Botelho Corporation, was hired to fix 25 Newport streets, a job with a contract value of $1.

The streets were swarming, the beaches were filled, and this summer, 2004, I learned why Newport is a world-renowned vacation destination. The shops, restaurants, and festivals brought the streets to life and the warm, sunny weather drew the crowds to the beaches, state parks, and out onto the luminous water.

Leading is never an easy task. It is always filled with pressure, opportunity and, of course, criticism. Yet, it is honorable and worth every thrilling moment if met with a measure of success.

Leading can be as unique as the individual accepting the responsibility.

When Julie Lindblom, a 20 year old nursing major at Salve, was in second grade her grandfather had his first open-heart surgery. It was then that Lindblom first decided that she wanted to be a nurse; more specifically her grandfather’s nurse.

During her junior year in high school, Lindblom’s grandfather died, but her dream of becoming a nurse didn’t die with him, in fact, this tragic turn of events only strengthened her desire to pursue nursing.

Newport Harbor was all tied up this weekend by hundreds of boats. Thousands of people arrived in Newport to visit the 34th Annual Newport International Boat Show.

This event marked the beginning of the industry’s fall boat shows allowing people a first look at the 2005 boat debuts.
