This semester Salve Regina students are studying abroad in France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, England and Australia. They are in Paris, Lyon, London, Rome, Florence, Seville, Madrid, Cork and Sydney and their majors include Accounting, History, English, Marketing, Modern Languages, Administration of Justice, Art, Education, Cultural and Historic Preservation, Psychology, International Business, Politics and Economics.

NEWPORT – The last time a state of emergency was declared in Rhode Island was Aug. 26, 1991. Hurricane Bob, a lowly Category 1 storm, was just about to strike parts of southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Nick Logothets, the director of emergency services for the Rhode Island Red Cross remembers the events of that day vividly.

Since opening Edna Mae’s Millinery & Bridal Studio in 1989, local Newport resident Jamie Kurtis has designed hats for two Presidential inaugurations, the Kentucky Derby, Ascot and Cirque Du Soleil. Located at 140 Spring Street, Edna Mae’s is named for Kurtis’ late Grandmother, Edna Mae Thorn, who grew up in a time where no matter where you were going or what you were doing you wore a hat to complete your ensemble.

SRU Dance Club Tears Up the Stage

One man and 109 women tore up the stage Saturday and Sunday at Salve Regina University’s fall dance performance titled “Tearin’ Up.” Both shows took place in Rodgers Recreation Center, where dancers danced on a wooden stage in the gym.

On Saturday night, people had the “Pay What You Can” option, or could bring a canned good for charity.
