Many Salve students have probably seen Salve Regina junior Frankie Arnone’s musical presence through social media or in downtown Newport. Also known by stage name DJ Frizzle, Arnone has taken Newport and Providence nightlife by storm and created a name for herself in the local community. Known for her house music, Frankie has become a “campus celebrity” and Rhode Island nightlife public figure. I had the pleasure of speaking to Arnone about her success so far and her plans for the future.

Arnone places the beginning of her career in her sophomore dorm room in the William Watts Sherman House. “I have always loved house and electronic dance music, and the art of turntablism fascinates me,” Arnone said. That word, “turntablism,” is the art of manipulating sounds to make new music—something that successful DJs must have a solid grasp of.

Frankie credits a high school classmate for her initial interest in DJing. When it came to choosing her DJ name, DJ Frizzle, she credits her middle school best friend Amanda Hooten. “While everyone in middle school was making their Instagram handles, friends of mine were able to shorten their last names and putting a Z at the end…My last name is Arnone, so I was out of cool-sounding names until Amanda suggested Frizzle. Throughout middle school, we were known as AHootz and Frizzle, and when it came time to choose a DJ moniker during [those first] DJ days, Frizzle was the first thing that came to mind,” DJ Frizzle recalled. “I appreciate how my name honors my roots and my friends, who will always be what’s most important to me.”

After being asked about her future, Arnone noted a shift in career interest. “Since I started DJing, my professional aspirations have shifted from family therapist to talent buyer and manager for musicians in the industry I work in.” She has hopes of balancing her DJ career with artist management, “bridging the gap between artists and venues.”

So, how will DJ Frizzle start this career venture? She hopes to turn her current radio show, Fever Radio, into her own media enterprise. Arnone will follow in the footsteps of industry greats such as John Summit and Tiesto, creating her own path while using them as guides to her success.

DJ Frizzle is making her music a top priority in 2024. “I plan to focus more on producing music and performing at more venues and clubs.” One of her notable haunts is the Irish American Pub on Thames Street, where she DJs on Thursday’s evenings.

Arnone wants to extend her thanks to her supportive parents, girlfriend, friends, and roommates as well as anyone who has supported her in her journey so far. She also wants to extend her gratitude to Newport Nightlife and Boujee Entertainment Teams for their support in her career.
