It is 8:30 p.m. in a brightly lit Cecilia Hall. Ten students position themselves in their seats as Peter Davis signals the start of rehearsal. The drums pound. Flutes and saxophones move the music number along. Davis stands in front of his group of students playing air guitar.

A crowd of musicians file into the ballroom of Cecilia Hall, domed 12 feet above by a cracked plaster ceiling. Crystals drip from chandeliers hundreds of years old. Musicians comment again this week that the room is drafty and the yellow lighting is awful for playing.

NEWPORT, RI- Students and faculty at Salve Regina University have taken a stand by setting up a month-long petition signing event in support of Tibetan freedom and human rights in an effort to raise student awareness about the issue.
