NEWPORT, R.I. – Dr. Romano Prodi, former prime minister of Italy and president of the European Commission delivered a speech on Oct. 21, 2009 at Salve Regina University stating that Europe has the potential for having a strong role on the world stage, but it is too disjointed to have a significant impact.

NEWPORT R.I.- The cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point may find an unlikely ally in literature when preparing to lead soldiers into combat as future junior officers in the U.S. Army.

Dr. Elizabeth Samet, author of the award winning “Soldier’s Heart: Reading Literature Though Peace and War at West Point” and professor of English at West Point, described a capstone project at the service academy designed to open cadets’ minds up to the benefits literature has to offer when faced with the prospect of going to war.

Salve Regina’s International Education Week will kick off Monday, Nov. 14, 2009. Co-sponsored by the McKillop Library and the Office of International and Multicultural Programs, the week-long initiative will feature an array of activities, contests, and lectures to encourage students to widen their cultural horizons.

“Vampire Diaries” is a new series on the CW this fall starring Nina Dobrev (Elena), Paul Wesley (Stefan) and Ian Somerhalder (Damon). Based on the series of books by L.J. Smith, the show follows Stefan and Damon Salvatore, two vampire brothers who have returned to the town of Mystic Falls.
