With registration dates for the 2015 fall semester approaching, many students are looking for classes to add to their schedule. Are you one of them? Are you looking to fill up your schedule with extra credits? Do you want to take a class outside of your major that’s interesting and unique? Do you want to learn more about film, gender, deviant behavior, Chinese philosophy, or the Atomic Bomb?

If so, here are six courses you should keep an eye out for next semester!

ENG-241 Film and Literature – Monday & Wednesday 02:30PM – 03:45PM – K. Esch

This class is awesome if you like reading non-fiction and studying how filmmakers adapt novels, short stories and other works into movies. In past years, classes have read anything from Fight Club to The Walking Dead, and have even written papers about how they would personally direct an adaptation. The class also fulfills the English common core requirement!

ENG-253 History of Cinema – Monday & Wednesday 11:00AM – 12:15PM – D. Ramsey

With a 4.7 on ratemyprofessor.com, Dr. Ramsey is one of the top-rated professors at Salve Regina University. Plus, you get to watch movies! The class moves chronologically through the history of film, and, according to the catalogue, “emphasis is placed on major directors, films, social and cultural developments, and aesthetic movements that have contributed to the evolution of cinema.”

ENG-368-01 Media and Gender – Tuesday & Thursday 11:00AM – 12:15PM – M. Esch

As part of the new Gender Studies minor, officially beginning in the fall, more and more gender classes will begin to be offered at Salve. Media and Gender is one of the first! If you’re interested in Gender Studies, you should definitely check this class out to see what the it’s all about, and maybe even discover your minor when you’re done! This is a 300-level course, so make sure you’re interested before you commit to the class. Of course, that’s what the drop/add period is for!

SOA-317-01 Deviant Behavior – Tuesday & Thursday 11:00AM – 12:15PM – G. Willis

Another highly-rated professor at Salve according to ratemyprofessor.com with a 4.9 average, Dr. Willis will be teaching Deviant Behavior next semester. According to the catalogue, the class is “an analysis of behavior that is considered socially prohibited,” but be careful, this class is a 300-level course and can only be taken if you are either a Junior or a Senior.

PHL-399-01 Sptpc: Chinese Philosophy – Thursday 06:00PM – 08:30PM – T. Catterson

One of Dr. Catterson’s personal interests, Chinese Philosophy is being offered as a Philosophy Special Topics course for the next semester. Dr. Catterson has a 4.5 on ratemyprofessor.com, and his teaching style is praised by many students both in the Philosophy department and outside. But be warned, this class is a 300-level course and will probably be as challenging as it is interesting.

HIS-299-01 Sptpc: Atomic America – Tuesday & Thursday 03:45PM – 05:00PM – S. Zeman

Being offered as a Special Topic course next semester, Atomic America is a course focusing on the Atomic Bomb and the role it has played in America’s history. Not too much else is in the catalogue about this course yet, but it can be taken as a History Common Core Requirement, and students say Dr. Zeman is enthusiastic and engaging during his lectures.
