Album Review: Luke Combs

“Alexa, play What You See Is What You Get by Luke Combs”.

Nothing like waking up on a Friday morning to a new Luke Combs album-that is better than a fresh cup of coffee. Luke Combs is a rising country artist who never fails, with top-charting hits like “Beer Never Broke My Heart”, “Hurricane”, “When it Rains it Pours”, and “Beautiful Crazy”. Since releasing his first EP in 2014, it seems like Luke Combs has taken over the country music world.

On his new 17 song album, Combs is starting to become a country artist who can relate to the public, while at the same time keeping his original ideas of music. This is why he has risen to the top of the charts recently. At the age of 29, he has thrown lots of wisdom and life lessons into each and every one of his songs, especially “Every Little Bit Helps”, where he focuses on trying to forget an ex.

“Dear Today” starts off on an interesting note, Combs takes this song to a whole new level by going unplugged with just him and his guitar, making it sound like a recording from a coffee shop’s open mic night. This song expresses his feelings about living every day to the fullest, making sure not to waste any time throughout the day with your significant other.

“Lovin’ On You” really dives deep into what Luke Combs is feeling about the woman in his life. In reality, this song is “Beautiful Crazy” of What You See Is What You Get. With the lyrics, “but I’m in love with lovin’ on you, I feel that rush soon as you walk in a room, I can’t get enough of you honey”, Combs perfectly executes what he is feeling towards her, and he loves her so much that he is in love with how much he loves her… Get you a man like Luke Combs, am I right?!

For those who do not like country music, I highly recommend starting off listening to Luke Combs, his style of country is very easy to get into due to the snippets of grassroots, contemporary, rock, and pop-country. This album is more country heavy than his previous singles and albums. His consistency in the music industry is what allows him to do so well. I am 200% convinced that Luke Combs will never have a bad song and cannot wait for what 2020 brings for him.

Rating: 5/5
