Have a cornucopia of fun (and food) this Thanksgiving season.

It was the autumn of 1621. The Wampanoag Indians gathered amongst the Pilgrims for the very first time in the colonies. They shared a harvest feast of grandeur lasting the length of three days.

This description is how most Thanksgiving stories start out – a story that has been drilled into the minds of Americans over and over again, from grades Pre-K through 12 and on.

Yet, the idea of Thanksgiving as a holiday did not develop until the midst of the Civil War, when President Abraham Lincoln declared it a national holiday. Since that declaration, Thanksgiving takes place on the fourth Thursday of each November.

Regardless of the validity of historical details, it seems that every year, Thanksgiving is outshined by both Christmas and the celebration of the New Year.

Hence, the Mosaic plans to inspire your inner “Gobble, Gobble” this changing season as we count down to Thanksgiving 2010.

Here are some of our best ideas:
1. For the Birds:

You may only have nine days left, but it’s never too late – start your Thanksgiving diet PRONTO! Whatever your routine, make moves this remaining week. It will pay off as you get down to work at Mom’s dinner table next Thursday.
2. Table for More:

Gather together a group of your closest friends for a pre-Thanksgiving buffet. You’ll be thankful you’re not the only Thanksgiving themed-food enthusiast around. While you’re at it – try out a new recipe. Check out Spiced Pumpkin Seeds from Allrecipies.com.
3. Care You Can Share:

Throw a Thanksgiving-themed party. The catch: guests have to give a canned good or a dollar donation at the door. Donate what you gather to a local charity.
4. Turn Over a New Leaf:

Reach out to an old friend. Apologize. Hug a stranger. Share. Hand out your contagious smile. Do a good deed and give true thanks this season.
