Review: “Plumby’s” Brings Brick Alley Pub to Middletown

By: Liam Cooney | Staff Writer

Brick Alley Pub in downtown Newport has for some time been a staple of the downtown Newport dining scene. Known for their great drinks, nachos, burgers and salads, Brick Alley just recently expanded – well, sort of.

A relatively new restaurant to Aquidneck Island, opening early this past fall, Plumby’s Restaurant is owned by business partners and brothers, Matt Plumb and Ralph Plumb III, and the Brick Alley Restaurant Group.

Located at the intersection of East Main Road and Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown, Plumby’s aspires to bring the well-known taste of Brick Alley to neighboring Middletown.

Just like the downtown Newport restaurant location, at Plumby’s, you can expect to choose from a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads, nachos, wings and tenders, as well as flavorful drinks and desserts. I was able to get a taste of the new restaurant with my family, and was pleased with a good meal, at what was a good value in terms of cost. I went for the Quinoa Boston Bib Veggie Burger, with a cup of New England clam chowder – I am an avid seafood lover – on the side. Others in my family went for the Chicken Tenders, Mac and Cheese, and Huntsman Cheeseburger. All of which looked appetizing. I was happy to see a healthier option like the Veggie Burger available, as often restaurants leave you to choose between enjoying yourself, or settling for some lettuce in a bowl. The meal I had on the other hand filled me up, tasted good and was a healthier choice.

Plumby’s menu features the restaurant group’s traditional burgers/sandwiches, nachos and salads, but also offers dishes for a more adventurous palate such as the Portuguese Stuffed Clams and the Ahi Tuna Sliders.

As it adheres to rules of service under COVID-19 guidelines and initiatives, Plumby’s is offering limited in person eating, as well as the ability to order completely online, pick up in the restaurant, or even have a curbside pickup style service. The restaurant itself features a casual counter style ordering area, with a wide-open floor plan.

If you or your family is looking for a new spot to try in the new year, Plumby’s would be a good bet. There is no better time than now to support local families and local small businesses, with the restrictions and capacity limits hindering business during their opening months of operation. If there was ever a time to spend a hard-earned dollar at a small local business or restaurant, it’s now.

Plumby’s is open 11AM Wednesday through Sunday, closing at 8PM, and 9PM Fridays and Saturdays.
