sru_dance1This past weekend, the SRU Dance team held their Fall 2013 Performance called “Can’t Hold Us”, based on a song by Macklemore with the same title. The seats on Saturday night were filled to the brim with enthusiastic friends and family shouting the performers’ names. The show began without further hesitation, starting with Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us”, definitely a great way to get the crowd started with. This was quickly followed by the sexy dance to the catchy track, “Latch” by Disclosure, and a flawless performance of Michael Jackson’s classic hit, “Man in the Mirror”. SRU Dance was just getting warmed up as they continued with such swiftness with the rhythm group’s performance to Japanese Drums, then beautifully choreographed routines to a Tina Turner cover of “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” and Cold Play’s “Fix You”. They continued to dance to hit singles such as Ed Sheeran’s “Give Me Love”, Crooker’s “Royal T”, a mix featuring pop diva, Beyoncé, and a cover of “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn. Each group was on the spot with their moves, such passion gleamed in their eyes as they danced gracefully. The first act ended perfectly with each group dancing to their routines of Fall Out Boy’s “Light ‘Em Up”, a mash up of Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now” and Rihanna’s “Cockiness”, and finally with Taylor Swift’s hit “Red”.

sru_dance6After the fifteen-minute intermission, the crowd bustled back in for the second act of the recital. SRU Dance began the act with a fun dance to the Country duo group, Big and Rich’s “Fake ID”, a beautiful impression performance of “Love Song” by Rihanna, and hypnotic choreography to One Republic’s hit, “Apologize”. They carried on quickly with graceful and swift performances of “We Found Love”, covered by British pop artist, Jessie J, a very elegantly choreographed dance of Beyoncé’s cover of “Ave Maria”, and a flawless routine of Lana Del Ray’s “Young and Beautiful.” The next groups did smooth and exciting routines to a track from the Disney flick, Tangled, the Seven Nation Army’s classic hit, “The White Stripes”, and “Stateless” by Bloodstream. The second act ended with wild and beautiful routines to a “mixed mash up of yesterday’s and today’s pop”, Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather”, a Great Gatsby remix of “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” by Fergie; and of course, the grand finale with all of the groups performing “Applause” by Lady Gaga.

All in all, their hard work was evident through their incredible moves and their energy was through the roof. After this amazing recital, one can hope that this will inspire other students to join in the spring.
