The Classic Movie You Should’ve Watched by Now: “The Godfather”

Being a part of Generation Z is both a blessing and a curse. Multiple great movies have been released during our lifetime, but there is no denying that the best movies are the classics. There’s a long list of classic films that continue to be considered some of the best in cinematic history. If you haven’t seen this one by now, this article is perfect for you.

If you are looking for a good movie to watch, you are in the right place. I am by no means a film expert, but I know a thing or two about classic movies. Growing up, my parents introduced me to movies from their time, and I was never able to fully get out of that phase. I’m extremely grateful for my passion when it comes to classic movies, and I can’t wait to share that with you.

“The Godfather” is undoubtedly my favorite movie and deserves to be at the top of this list of classic films you should’ve watched by now. Starting out as a 448 page novel by Mario Puzo, “The Godfather” is an American classic that was brought to life on the big screen in 1972.

The film is a 2 hour and 55 minute transportation into another world. A world filled with love, loss, violence and betrayal. Something so foreign to the average watcher suddenly becomes understandable as we meet each of the complex characters connected to the Corleone family.

Something to keep in mind when watching this film is that there is no such thing as an insignificant moment. Almost every scene foreshadows another and the more intently you watch, the more satisfying the ending will be. By the time you finish “The Godfather” you will be a part of the Corleone family. You will form connections with characters, and do nothing but hope that they too will make it to the end credits.

Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the film adaptation, and Mario Puzo, the author of the novel, create a compelling cast of characters that has the audience consistently on the edge of their seats. Together they wrote a screenplay that left no room for error and opened the door for many other gangster movies and television shows to follow in their footsteps. Without these two brilliant creators, the world would be missing out on something great.

This year is the film’s 50th anniversary, and there is no better time than the present to grab a friend and watch the classic film that you definitely should’ve seen by now.
