We Need a Little Christmas, Right This Very Minute

Bah! Humbug.

In the past few days, I have heard of women trampled at Walmart in search of $29 DVD players, some guy who beat up a lady in the parking lot because she looked at his wife funny in the check-out line, and once again the ACLU is threatening lawsuits over a few statues on a lawn.

And we call this Christmas. Who needs it?

Who can argue that we don’t all need it – not the Christmas described by a few pagan events – but the truth of Christmas dictated by faith in truth? Whether you believe in the messiah or not, there is no one who can deny the historical contributions Jesus has made to promote the gospel of peace. And don’t we all need a little of that?

For those of us who have the good fortune of believing not just in the

historical significance of Jesus but also try to live the Christian message of the season, the Good news gets only better. Happy holidays become Merry Christmas, good will becomes God’s will, and simple promises become filled with Hope and Joy – not of men but of God. And don’t we all need a little of that?

No, try as we might, we can not take Christ out of Christmas. I suppose for some it’s a challenge to try. It is those for whom I pray this year. May the promise of the child, away in that manger, be heard not just by those who follow the star but also by those who watch it go by. I don’t believe in coincidences, so if you are reading these words, for you I pray. May the Spirit and Joy of Jesus, the Hope and Promise of our God, and the Peace and Faith of all the world bring a smile to your face this day. May the grace of the Season change our hearts, our minds, and our very lives. And may the new year truly be a year to be made new. And don’t we all need a little of that?

Yes, I wish you a happy holiday but even more so, a Merry Christmas!
