The lady Seahawk’s lacrosse team has been in the gym and on the field for the past few months preparing for the upcoming spring season. Signs of their determination are all around, especially in the locker room, where they put a sign saying “It ain’t over till it’s over.” In an interview with head coach Jennifer Eldridge, she shared a preview of what to expect from this year’s team.

The team had their tryouts in the first week of February, in which they cut one player. With 11 new players, and seven of them being freshmen, the team has the opportunity to completely reinvent itself. They have all been working on strength and conditioning in the off season with trainer Tom Newman.

Last year’s team placed ninth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, but they have their sights set on much higher goals this year.

“Our team has set some specific goals for the upcoming season, including improving in several offensive and defensive categories within the conference,” Eldridge said. “Our number one goal is to qualify for the TCCC tournament and compete for the TCCC championship trophy.”

Leading the team to this goal are senior captains Sal Baker and Gina Campbell. Eldridge speaks highly of the captains. “They are dedicated to what we want to achieve as a team and are great at motivating their teammates to better themselves,” Eldridge said.

The team is set to play their first five games on the new turf at Gaudet Field in Middletown, R.I. Their first face-off there is on Mar. 9, 2010, against Eastern Connecticut. The rest of the home games are set to be played on campus at Lawrence Field.
