By: Michael DeFusco | Staff Writer

Winter is a wonderful time to watch a good movie, and an even better time to eat. Below are the five best winter-themed movie and dinner combinations to try while you’re snowed in.

  1. “Hateful Eight” with beef stew

On a freezing winter night, watch this movie to remind yourself that it could always be worse. Hateful Eight takes place in the middle of a blizzard where eight strangers living in the old American west are snowed in a haberdashery for a night of deceit (and classic Tarantino gore). So, while you’re enjoying your stew in the comfort of friends and family, these characters are doing so at a table of hateful strangers.

Available on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

2. The Revenant” with personal chicken pot pie

This story of a lone survivor will inspire you on your own journey as you attempt to finish your chicken pot pie. In the wintery adaptation of the Hugh Glass survival story, Leonardo DeCaprio puts on a chilling performance, as you remain comfortable on the couch with a warm dinner.

Available on Cinemax Go or Amazon Prime.

3.“Wind River” with vegetable soup

This ominous mystery follows a wildlife officer who is investigating the murder of a Native American women during a harsh Wyoming winter, with snow so deep the only way for the characters to get around certain areas is by snowmobile. For conditions this cold the only cure is a warm bowl of vegetable soup- but make sure to set it down near the end, because the conclusion will have you up in arms.

Available on Netflix and Disney+

4. “Frozen” with ginger snaps and hot chocolate

After three intense movies it’s time for a brighter film and lighter meal. The wildly popular “Frozen” will raise your spirits through song, and the ginger snaps coupled with hot chocolate will warm your belly while you stay sheltered from the elements.

Available on Disney+ and Amazon Prime.

5.“Ice Age” with mac and cheese

Finish your movie watching with this classic family friendly film. Ice age will give you all the winter feels and leave you in a good mood for the rest of your winter. Couple this with a bowl of the best comfort food and ease into the couch on a blistering cold day.

Available to watch on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
