7 Reasons Mosaic Writers are Lucky

By Catherine Kierce| Associate Editor

Involvement with campus organizations is one of the most memorable and irreplaceable experiences of being a college student. There are countless benefits to being involved in any Salve Regina University student organization, but here is a list of exclusive benefits you can gain only by joining Mosaic Student News!

1. The People You Meet

Mosaic welcomes writers from all majors to join our staff. This makes the club a great place to meet not only English majors who share a serious interest in journalism, but also global studies, political science, and education majors that you may not encounter anyplace else.

2. The Team Bonding

With so many members spanning different majors and class years, fun team bonding is a non-negotiable piece to Mosaic running smoothly. End of the year lunches at Diego’s, gift bag making nights, and customized sweatshirts could be in your future!

3. The Writing Experience

For each article submitted, Mosaic editors offer comments and feedback so that writers can continue building their skills. Writing for Mosaic also allows the opportunity to build on one’s professional skills. Group brainstorming at meetings, and potential collaborations with other writers are essential opportunities for professional growth. Not to mention, writing for a student newspaper is a huge resume booster, regardless of your major.

4. The Opportunities

Mosaic writers are presented with exciting opportunities not offered to any other Salve students. When our spring guest speakers come, Mosaic staff has access to a meet & greet before the event. We also have the option of taking group trips to New York City for writing conferences, where we explore the city and meet industry professionals.

5. Staying in the Know

Because it is Mosaic’s job to keep the entire campus aware of what’s happening, writers have the firsthand updates on what’s going on. Current events are the topic of conversation at Mosaic meetings, and writers can even offer to cover an event themselves to experience a more up-close view of the situation.

6. The Small Commitment

Being a staff writer for Mosaic does not require a crazy level of commitment. Mosaic staff meets once a week, and articles are due bi-weekly, should you choose to contribute to an issue. Submitting something to every issue is not mandatory, only weekly meeting attendance is.

7. The Creative Freedom

Writing for Mosaic means you can write about whatever you want. Hear of some big news on campus that needs to be made known? Write a news story and have it published. Not a fan of the hard-hitting new stories? We also publish profiles of people and clubs, as well as Listicles and pop culture articles!
