Mix one part Detective Fiction and one part Chick Lit and one will get Meg Cabot’s wonderfully entertaining “Size 12 is Not Fat” series.

The series features the feisty Heather Wells, a former pop star, who works as an assistant dorm director for New York College. She thinks the job will be a piece of cake compared to her entertainer days. However, she gets more than she bargains for when one of her residents mysteriously dies in an elevator shaft in her residence hall. The police write it off as an accident, but Heather knows there is something fishy going on and decides to do her own investigating, much to the chagrin of her roommate and super secret crush, Cooper, and the rest of the New York detectives.

Cabot, who is the author the wildly popular “Princess Diaries” series, has a penchant for creating relatable female characters that the reader will root for until the very end. Not to mention, she has a great sense of humor and with each new paragraph the reader will chuckle out loud to Heather’s crazy antics. The reader will also be able to completely relate to Wells and how she feels when people are shocked to learn of her teenage stardom past, especially when, *gasp* they notice she can no longer fit into a size 2.

The reader will hope for her to finally get together with Cooper. This is a very complicated situation because he is the older brother of pop superstar, Jordan Cartwright; aka: Heather’s ex-boyfriend from her mall touring days. But that will not stop Heather from pining for what she deserves: happiness.

Cabot’s book is pure fun right from the very first sentence until the last. Cabot gives women out there a character, who they can all relate to, and also gives her readers something more than an average chick book; they get to solve a mystery while still enjoying the elements of a romance novel.

In fact the book reads more like a chick flick that is worthy of a big tub of popcorn (with extra butter of course!). Readers will definitely fall in love with this series and they will definitely be asking for more Heather Wells once the mystery is finally resolved.
