DIY Halloween Costumes

It’s fall and that means midterms have been creeping up with Halloween right behind them. Do you have your costume ready? Didn’t think so. Here are some costumes you can put together last minute with items you most likely have on hand.

1. Baby from Baby Driver

It takes very little to look like the titular character from Edgar Wright’s latest release, Baby Driver. All you need is a pair of sunglasses, a varsity style jacket, and some headphones to leave in your ears all night.

2. Baby from Dirty Dancing

This Baby is the one you don’t put in a corner. If you have a watermelon lying around: carry it. If you have any dancing skills: use them. This is basically all you need for this Dirty Dancing costume. Other than that, any denim short/top combo or dress will do.

3. Damian from Mean Girls

You’ll have a hard time finding anyone who doesn’t understand this costume. All you need is a pair of sunglasses and a sweatshirt. Put up the sweatshirt hood and pull the strings tight. Be prepared with your favorite Mean Girls quotes and you are all set.

4. Deb from Napoleon Dynamite

This is an old one, but a classic. The main requirements to become this Napoleon Dynamite character are a side ponytail, a fanny pack, and anything pastel. Bonus points: carry a business card that says “Glamour Shots by Deb.”

5. Eleven from Stranger Things

For this costume you can just wear a dress with sneakers and carry around an empty box of Eggos. Pro tip: food inside your Eggo box for easy snacking throughout the night. Bonus points: get your friends to also dress up like middle school children from the 80s.

If all else fails, there is always the option of dressing like you’re from another decade. With old styles becoming trendy again, you are sure to have some vintage looks in your wardrobe. All it takes is the right combination of clothing items and the vintage style is amplified.
