How Was Your Break?

By Ciara Speller –

After weeks and weeks of hard work, sports, and extra-curricular activities, Salve Regina students finally got a well deserved break. There is a surplus of things that I am sure that students did over their month-long vacation. Some Salve students were able to fly home overseas and spend time in their tropical habitats with friends and families, while others from the states took week-long cruises and adventures to their desired paradises. Or, maybe some went back home to a snow-covered wonderland and were able to go snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding or just spending some days watching the snow fall while drinking hot cocoa and enjoying their favorite movies. Some others even decided to work the entire break to have some cash to return to school, which I am sure really paid off when that final check arrived. That should have, at the very least, covered the costs of Christmas shopping.

Whatever the case may be, the time away was well spent, whether the weeks away benefitted the students in need of a mental holiday, or whether winter break was spent keeping busy. A couple of students mentioned volunteering at local shelters and animal hospitals. Some also may have dedicated their time to nursing homes, where I am sure that the elderly really appreciated having someone show concern for them during the holiday season. I spent a lot of time with my friends and family, worked some days and caught the presidential debate in my home town of Manchester, New Hampshire. However, I mostly volunteered my time to teach dance classes which benefited teenagers in my area. However SRU students spent their holiday break, I hope that it was enjoyable! Below are some students who shared exactly what they did.

Kathrine Brown- For the break I went to my home state Arizona.  While I was there I hung out with friends and also went to Sedona.

Hope Allen- Over break I went skiing at Liberty in Maryland where I live, rode my horse Sebastian and also hung out with friends.

Rhiannon Lloyd- Over break I went to England for three weeks.  I also worked at a gym/daycare in my hometown and spent time with my friends.
