Salve Basketball’s Mikey Spencer and Kevin Kelly Reach 1,000 Career Points

Salve men’s Basketball is back after a more than a 700-day hiatus due to the cancellation of the 2020-2021 season. The Seahawks are currently sitting at 3-2 overall, riding a three-game win streak having beat Babson College, Coast Guard, and Fisher College.

On top of the intercollegiate success, two Seahawks have also made their own history, with Senior Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.) passing 1,000 career points Tuesday 11/16 vs. Coast Guard, and Graduate Senior Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) reaching 1,000 career points Saturday 11/20 in a blowout win vs. Fisher. These two are the 21st in 22nd players in the men’s program to ever reach such a milestone.

Spencer and Kelly join teammate Cam Collins, who eclipsed the 1,000 point mark his junior year, in a playoff matchup during February of 2020 against Wentworth. Spencer and Collins are two of only three players in program history to reach the mark within 3 seasons (Justin Hackley, ‘97). Spencer, who is currently a senior, unfortunately missed his entire junior year due to the season’s cancellation. Collins chose to continue his career and elected to return to school for his extra year of eligibility, now averaging 20 points per game and just recently being named CCC player of the week. Spencer is currently averaging 18.5 points per game, while Kevin Kelly, who, like Collins, elected to return for his 5th year, is currently putting up 10 points per game along with 4.5 assists while running at the point guard position.

The next time the Seahawks will take the floor at home will be Wednesday December 1st against reigning CCC champion (2019-2020) Nichols College. Show as much support you can this season to all winter athletics who are just getting back on the rink/court/field for the first time in over a year.
