Spring 2023 Playlist for those Windows Down Drives

By: Maeve McCann | Secretary

Spring time at Salve has finally come around! Nice weather, later sunsets and flowers are a few of the best parts of spring. My favorite part of spring is finally being able to listen to music with the windows down. What better way to ring in the new season than with a new playlist….

1. “Marcel” by Her’s

This song never fails to remind me of sunny days. The beat is fun and it is the perfect song for a drive along the beach. The chorus is catchy and never fails to get stuck in my head. It kind of gives me The Beach Boys vibes. It is such a relaxing song and is one of my go-to’s when going to watch the sunset.

2. “Kilby Girl” by The Backseat Lovers

This song is both on my spring and summer playlists. There is something so satisfying about screaming the chorus to this song. It’s a little bit angsty which makes it ten times more fun to sing along to. The bridge to this song is always just as satisfying as the last time I listened to it. This song was featured in the most recent season of Outer Banks, making it the perfect time to add this to your playlist.

3. “Lovers Rock” by TV Girl

This Indie rock/pop group has become very popular within the past decade. TV Girl’s “Lovers Rock” is their number one song with over 342 million listens on Spotify. It’s popular for good reason, as this song and Marcel are very similar in sound. They both sound very nostalgic to me with a little bit of a modern flare. This one is a must to listen to.

4. “This Charming Man” by The Smiths

“I said I love The Smiths!!!,” and don’t we all? This song is a perfect song to dance around to, as it is consistently stuck in my head and the perfect for spring because of how upbeat it is without being too in your face. When I think of a summer song they tend to be more upbeat and may be reminiscent of a day at the pool. Whereas a spring song is reminiscent of the first sunny day over 50 degrees.

5. “Beige” by Yoke Lore

Although this song has been out for a while, it just recently grew dramatically in popularity. All thanks to TikTok, this song has made it very high up on this list. This song feels like sitting in the sun for the first time after a miserable winter. It’s a very chill song, it isn’t too upbeat and it’s not sad. It’s the perfect in between as we move into spring.

6. “Here Comes The Sun” by The Beatles

Literally here comes the sun. This song is an oldie but a goodie and always puts a smile on my face. The way this song picks up makes you excited. This is a perfect example of a song you may have forgotten about but still hits so hard.

7. “Dance Alone” by Blanks

This song has been a favorite of mine for a couple years. It always reminds me of springtime. It is so fun to sing along to and this artist is so underrated. It’s that perfect in between where it could give both spring and summer.

8. “All Of The Girls You Loved Before” by Taylor Swift

What would this list be without a song by Taylor Swift? Taylor has a song for literally every feeling, vibe and season. Maybe it is because this song was recently released that it feels like spring to me. The chorus of this song is incredibly beautiful and has been a nonstop listen since it was released. It’s relatable and feels like a spring day.

9. “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer

This song will forever and always be an absolute banger. This song got incredibly popular after its feature in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. This song was on both my fall and spring playlist. It’s a light song, it’s fun to sing along to and honestly has been my go-tos as the weather begins to get nicer.

10. “Upside Down” by Jack Johnson

This song immediately reminds me of Curious George more than anything else. Though that is always my first thought, it also reminds me of flowers blooming and springtime sunsets. It is a really fun song and holds a very special place in a lot of people’s hearts because of where it first came from. This song I believe will stand the test of time.

11. “Gypsy” by Fleetwood Mac

This song is light and so much fun to sing to. Fleetwood Mac has a lot of songs that have made it to my spring playlist but this one especially reeks of spring to me. It is a song that is fun and will always remind me of springtime. This is one of those songs that you listen to and you’re transported back in time. It will never fail to remind me of my freshman year dorm room. Shoutout Miley 224!

12. “Looking Out For You” by Joy Again

Joy Again released this song in 2016. It skyrocketed in popularity a couple years ago on TikTok and immediately became one of my favorite songs. It is incredibly catchy and transports me back to driving around after senior year of high school. The ukulele in this song is so pretty and just ignites happiness within. Aside from the instrumentals, I also feel like this song is relatable to many people which is why it became so popular.

13. “Lost In Yesterday” by Tame Impala

Tame Impala is one of my favorite artists of all time. There are so many Tame Impala songs on my spring playlist but this song especially radiates springtime vibes. The Slow Rush album has been one of my favorites since it came out in 2020. It was a go-to in quarantine. Tame Impala is definitely a specific vibe but I feel as though it scratches and itches in my brain. If you haven’t listened to Tame Impala I highly, highly recommend it.

14. “Grapejuice” by Harry Styles

Ahhh yes Mr. Harry Styles. If you have not listened to Harry’s House it is an absolute must listen, no-skip album. There is a song for every feeling in this album. This song in particular is very low key but it has such a good spring vibe. The lyrics are so cute and just exude spring energies. Also, it’s Harry Styles so what is not to love.

15. “Heaven” by Niall Horan

Couldn’t leave out Niall. As an avid One Direction fan growing up, I continue to listen to their music as well as all of their solo music. He has an album coming out on June 9th which is so exciting. This is the single off this album and couldn’t have come at a better time. This song is perfect for spring. It is the perfect chill song. This song to me sounds like going on a walk in the springtime. It has been on repeat since it came out just last month.
