The Turf Wars of Miley Dining Hall

Have you ever noticed how Salve’s men’s sports teams sit in the same place for every meal? The hockey team will always be in front of the salad bar, and the basketball team in front of the smoothie bar. The lacrosse team is at the first two round tables to the left of Mongolian Grill, the baseball team fills in the empty tables behind the lacrosse team, followed by the soccer team who sit at the rectangular table near the TVs. On the other side, you will find all circle tables filled by the football team.

The addition to the smoothie bar has caused some disruption in this seamless system. Without the booths next to MyZone, the basketball players can be seen testing other areas around the dining hall, ultimately resorting back to the seats in front of the smoothie bar. Likewise, on rare occasions, the tables in front of the salad bar are taken, leaving the hockey team to find somewhere else to go. They usually settle somewhere next to the pizza station. The baseball and lacrosse teams sometimes get into turf wars, taking up more tables than usual or moving a couple of tables closer to the TVs. The soccer team usually gets their seats and settles for the large circle booth, causing minimal disruptions to the dining hall.

The real question is: Why doesn’t anyone impede on the football team’s tables?

If a football player is not at the tables to the right of the Mongolian Grill, no one is. I for one, would love to see what would happen if someone were to sit at those tables. How would they react? Where would they sit? Every other team has seen their turf impeded, whether it be by fellow students or a new smoothie bar. So why not the football team?
