Week 5 of the Bachelorette: Restarting the Whole Season!

By: Rebecca Capozzi | Staff Writer and Treasurer

It looks as though this season of The Bachelorette is starting all over again! Tayshia came in hot and ready to meet all of the men that Clare left behind: essentially Clare’s seconds. However, neither her or the men seem to mind! As soon as Tayshia introduced herself to the men, the men were already saying that they liked Tayshia more than Clare. Even after watching Tayshia with the men for 5 minutes, I felt so refreshed and happy, since the last 4 weeks of watching Clare were honestly miserable.

When Tayshia began talking to the men one-on-one, I was really excited, but honestly felt bad for Tayshia. I think that she is one of the best women that has ever been in this franchise, and it kind of bothered me that she was not getting her own complete season. It really bothered me that she had to choose between the men that Clare essentially chose for her. What if the love of Tayshia’s life was one of the men that Clare had sent home? Fortunately, production brought another limo of new men for Tayshia to meet! I thought that this made everything more fair, until I saw that it was only 4 men. I found this to be really disappointing. If Clare got to choose from 30 men, Tayshia should as well.

As expected, tensions were high between the original men and the new men that had just arrived. One man specifically, Spencer, was not a favorite of the original men. He is very attractive and very cocky, so obviously, he is not a favorite in the house. However, he is a favorite to Tayshia, as he got the first impression rose! This made the men dislike him even more. When Kenny confronted him about being cocky, Spencer just told the men that they are jealous of him. It will definitely be interesting to see how Spencer’s relationship with both Tayshia and the men play out. Because let’s all be honest; we watch this show for the drama more than we do the love story.

During the episode, Tayshia chooses Brendan to go on a one-on-one date with. Let’s just say, they completely hit it off. They have so much in common, even the fact that they both got married at a young age and are now divorced. Tayshia shared the fact that her ex-husband cheated on her. I would just like to know how he could cheat on her because there is no way the other woman was prettier than Tayshia!

Tayshia did give us all a good scare during the date, however. In an interview, she said, “Kissing Brendan feels like I am kissing my person” and “I feel like I could marry him.” In addition, Brendan said, “This could be the first day of the rest of our lives.” Does this sound familiar to anyone?! Anyone else get flashbacks to night one with Clare and Dale?! I’m not going to lie, I got a pit in my stomach when they said this. In all honesty, I definitely do not think that this is going to be a repeat of Clare and Dale. If the producers made them say that in order to catch the audience’s attention, it definitely worked!

Brendan said, “This could be the first day of the rest of our lives.” Does this sound familiar to anyone?!

While most of this episode made me extremely happy, something happened that upset me and a lot of the members of Bachelor Nation. Jason, who is actually a University of Rhode Island Alum, decided to go home. He still had feelings for Clare, and did not think that he would be able to let go of those to pursue Tayshia. This was upsetting for several reasons. First, Jason is so deserving of love and has so much to give. He knew that he could not give his all to Tayshia, so he knew that he had to leave. Second, I find it upsetting that Clare nearly broke his heart because Clare probably did not care about him. He deserves a woman who will give all of herself to him, and although Clare did give him a chance, she still wished she was with Dale during that entire date. The third reason that this is upsetting is because it really upset Tayshia. Although she did not know Jason well, it upset her that he left because he still had feelings for Clare. She said that situations like that were what she was scared of coming onto the show, since she knew that the men were invested in Clare. Even though this is very much a legitimate fear, I do not think that Tayshia has much to worry about. Clare did not set the bar too high.

In the middle of the episode, Chris Harrison did interview Clare and Dale. I am not going to go into too much detail about it, since it was really what you are probably expecting it to be. Essentially, they were both talking about how this is a dream come true. Clare said, “Everything he was looking for was what I was looking for.” and “I know without a shadow of a doubt that this is everything that my dad wanted for me.” This was all very sweet and they seem very happy together. I know that Clare has been wanting to find her person for many years, and we know that she does not settle, so I am happy that she found her man and that she did not have to settle. I think my favorite part of the interview was when Chris Harrison asked, “What’s the next step for you two?” and Clare screamed, “BABIES!” The look on Dale’s face was priceless! I think that they should probably have a talk about that…

Having Tayshia as the bachelorette is so refreshing, and I can tell that she is going to be one of my favorites.

I am so excited for the rest of this season! Having Tayshia as the bachelorette is so refreshing, and I can tell that she is going to be one of my favorites. I am upset that she does not have her own, complete season, but I think that she will make the most of this situation. I would love nothing more than to see her happily engaged at the end of this!
